Sharing? Not That Simple

The Perfect Sharing

25 February – This is the pastoral text of Fr Reuter: When a laborer shares his baon with another worker, who has no baon, he is sharing his lunch with God. You wouldn’t know, if you didn’t share, how grateful the other fellow would be if you shared what’s in your lunchbox with him, even if he brought his own.

It was on my 3rd try at different times of the day and night, after a few hundred photos, that I saw Melissa’s sushi of a picture. It struck me that she showed this: Chopsticks on a plate. Instantly I realized: That’s sharing. Only 2 chopsticks and only 1 plate.

Melissa has a beautiful story to tell behind the photograph – go read it! (Just click on her name below her photo.) It’s a simple photo, shot directly over the plate and mantel, and yet it’s not simple. Notice the pattern of the mantel? The lines converge on the plate. Notice the white plate? The shadows surround the food. Notice the chopsticks? They cross the plate and make a sharp contrast with their green color with the white plate and the white rice and the colors of the toppings.

Melissa’s shot at portraying ‘Sharing’ hits the bull’s-eye, including the mind’s eye. Melissa, your sharing is perfect! The composition is perfect. The eating should be perfect. True sharing is not giving what you don’t need but what you have and need and what somebody else doesn’t have and needs it also.
