Maids All In A Row

04 February – This is the pastoral text of Fr Reuter: The Filipinos are all over the world. But, wherever they are, they flock together. The Filipinos love each other. Especially when they are abroad, I would say, although I have never been abroad. I have seen other pictures and read stories of how Filipinos, especially Filipina maids, will flock at some square or center or plaza on a Sunday. They while away the time relaxing, talking, eating, talking while eating, making friends even out of strangers.

How can they not? The Filipinos must be the most loving people in the world, as they are the least warlike of the civilized world. That is because most of them grew up as Catholics, and you know the Catholics – they are peacemongers rather than warmongers. Theirs is a difficult act to follow: ‘Love your enemies! Do good to them that harm you.’

Love can be exported – the Filipina is now the most exported product of the Philippines, the housemaid. The country is in fact exporting love, imperfect as it may be. The Filipina loves her family, especially her children, no matter how few or how many.
