Terms Of Endearment

07 February – This is the pastoral text of Fr Reuter: The people of other nations call the Mother of God ‘the Blessed Virgin Mary.’ But the Filipinos call her ‘Mama Mary.’ She is God’s mother, and their mother. I chose this Flickr image because, really, the Filipinos look at Mother Mary differently from other peoples. When they say ‘Mama Mary,’ they mean it in a different way from what you will call your mother, and you know it. While the Beatles were very irreverent (that’s why they were very creative), I think that this Beatles’ song (Lennon/McCartney), captures much of that term of endearment that Filipinos have for the Virgin Mary:

Let It Be

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. Yeah
There will be an answer, let it be.

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
