Husband & Wife Pregnant
07 December – The pastoral text of Fr Reuter is this: Our Lady of Guadalupe takes special care of babies who are not yet born – babies in the womb. Her heart goes out to every expectant mother. Apt image by Worp who captions it ‘Husband & Wife Pregnant’ (flickr.com/). That’s my shot of my son-in-law Toto and daughter Teresa pregnant with her firstborn, Samantha, in a family reunion on the eve of Valentine’s Day of 2004, Villa Letty, Pansol, Calamba, Laguna, the Philippines. 12 December is the feastday of Our Lady of Guadalupe, who is known as the Patroness of the Americas, appearing to a native Mexican, Juan Diego, in 1531. In that same year, the miracles began: the roses, the uncle cured of a deadly illness, the Lady’s beautiful image on Juan’s mantle – convinced 10 million native Mexicans to have themselves baptized as Roman Catholics; also, as a result, the Aztecs’ sacrificial killings of babies stopped (theworkofgod.org/). Guadalupe is the most frequented Marian shrine in the world, receiving more than 3 times the visitors at Lourdes, France (catholicism.org/).
